Suryalanka Beach: a day-trip guide from Bapatla

· 4 min read

Resort pool terrace, a relaxing base before a beach day trip

Suryalanka is the beach most visitors head to from Bapatla. It is a wide, flat stretch of sand on the Bay of Bengal, a short drive from town, and it is popular with families from across Guntur district.

When to go

Early morning and late afternoon are the best times. The sand is cooler, the light is soft and the crowds are thinner on weekdays. Winter months, roughly November to February, are the most comfortable for the Andhra coast.

What to carry

Pack sunscreen, a hat, drinking water, a towel and a change of clothes. Phone signal can be patchy, so share your plans with someone at the resort before you leave.

Stay safe in the water

The sea can have strong currents. Swim only where lifeguards or local staff say it is safe, keep children close and avoid going in after dark. If in doubt, enjoy the shoreline and save swimming for the resort pool.

Where to base yourself

A courtyard resort with a pool makes the perfect pair for a beach day. Go to the coast in the morning, return for lunch and a rest, and spend the golden hour on the pool terrace. See our rooms.

Bapatla's temple-town heritage: what to see

· 3 min read

Curved roof of the resort entrance inspired by traditional temple rooflines

Bapatla takes its identity from the Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple, one of the oldest and best-known Vaishnava shrines in coastal Andhra. The town was historically known as Bhavapuri, a name that still appears in local stories and inscriptions.

Visiting the temple

Dress modestly, remove footwear at the entrance and keep a little cash for offerings. Temple timings can change during festivals, so check with the resort's front desk before you go.

Beyond the temple

Wander the local market for fresh produce and snacks, and ask residents about the town's traditions. Bapatla is also known for its agricultural education, which gives the town a lively student presence.

A resort that borrows from tradition

Our own entrance, with its sweeping curved roof, nods to the sloping rooflines of traditional South Indian architecture, rendered in glass, stone and timber. Read our story.
